BF® OMEGA+ Scottish salmon oil is pure and cold-pressed* (see feeding advice) from fresh Scottish salmon. It is rich in polyunsaturated omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and contains optimal EPA/DHA levels. OMEGA+ Scottish salmon oil supports the skin, coat, digestion, joints, and the heart and blood vessels. It has soothing properties for skin discomforts, supports the skin's regenerative capacity, and ensures the maintenance of a shiny coat in dogs and cats. Highly concentrated pure salmon oil, making it economical to use and not mixed with other (cheaper) fish oils. You can also use OMEGA+ Scottish salmon oil as a tasty dressing over your pet's (dry) food or give it separately. Our BF®Petfood OMEGA+ salmon oil bottle is by definition airtight. This is important for maintaining the quality of the nutritional supplement. For all dog and cat breeds.

More information:

There are two main species of salmon:

  • Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)
  • Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus)

Within Atlantic salmon, a distinction is made between Norwegian, Irish, and Scottish salmon. Irish and Scottish salmon have a more compact, stocky build than Norwegian salmon. In terms of color, Irish and Norwegian salmon are red-pink, while Scottish salmon has a slightly lighter color due to its higher fat content. Atlantic salmon is generally considered superior to Pacific salmon.
After visiting various companies that offer salmon, we consciously chose pure salmon oil derived from Scottish wild salmon intended for human consumption. This tasty salmon is strictly controlled for unwanted substances (heavy metals, PCBs, and dioxins) after catch, as it is human-grade food.
Our BF® OMEGA+ Scottish Salmon Oil is a responsible and sustainable Omega-3 solution. No fish is caught for the purpose of producing oil. Our oil is created as a valuable by-product in the processing of caught Scottish salmon intended for the human sector. This way, the fish is utilized to the maximum, especially for the benefit of our pets. Our fresh caught Scottish salmon is not only better for the environment but also offers significant benefits for your pet compared to farmed salmon:

  • A higher content of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Less fat and calories
For more information, see feeding advice.

Tip: A healthy coat also means less shedding, which can help reduce the formation of hairballs. Additionally, salmon oil helps improve digestion, which can also contribute to reducing hairballs. Also ideal as part of mixed feeding. Store sensitive oils like salmon oil in a cool and dry place, e.g., in the refrigerator or cellar. The special thing about salmon oil is that you can also freeze it. This way, salmon oil stays fresh for up to 6 months and can be used as a nutritional supplement for that long.

The packaging and storage method have a significant influence on the quality and shelf life of cold-pressed oil, and therefore also on the effectiveness of the nutritional supplement. If salmon oil is not stored properly, its quality will also be compromised. All cold-pressed oils, including salmon oil, must be stored in a cool, dark place and kept airtight.

Our BF®Petfood OMEGA+ salmon oil bottle is by definition airtight. This is important to maintain the quality of the nutritional supplement. Store sensitive oils such as salmon oil in a cool, dry place, e.g., in the refrigerator or cellar. The special thing about salmon oil is that it can also be frozen. In this way, salmon oil can be kept for up to 6 months and can be used as a nutritional supplement for that long.

A few facts about our pure Scottish Salmon Oil:
• After visiting various companies that offer salmon, we have consciously chosen pure salmon oil derived from Scottish wild salmon intended for human consumption. This flavorful salmon is strictly checked for unwanted substances (heavy metals, PCBs, and dioxins) after catch because it is food for humans.
• The migratory Scottish salmon is harvested during the entire season for a maximum of five days a week, which guarantees the sustainability of the stocks. Our Scottish partner oversees all aspects of production, from catch to shipment. The granting of PGI status represents long-awaited recognition for both the salmon and the few remaining Scottish salmon netters. PGI accreditation fits a product of unparalleled quality and uniqueness. The company is bound by strict regulations from the Scottish government.
• Cold pressing* of Scottish salmon takes place at low temperatures, ensuring that the nutritional values in the salmon oil are preserved and providing optimal effectiveness. This also results in a highly concentrated salmon oil, which means the dosage is smaller than with non-cold-pressed salmon and fish oils. Many salmon and fish oils are made by cooking the fish, with the major disadvantage that they contain a multitude of saturated fatty acids and therefore do not provide the same results. Unrefined oil can be cloudy. Slight cloudiness or sediment are evidence of an environmentally friendly pressing process of high quality.
• Scottish salmon has plenty of space, unlike much farmed salmon, and is given enough time to grow. In addition, no synthetic raw materials and/or colorants or growth promoters are used, so the marine life is not affected as is often the case with farmed salmon. The result is that the number of wild salmon caught is many times lower compared to the number of farmed salmon, and therefore the quality and price are higher.
• The most important omega-3 fatty acids are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which can be found in fatty cold-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna. BF® Scottish salmon oil contains 18.7% Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA 7.5%/8.8%) and 4.9% Omega-6 fatty acids. The energy value is 3,710 kJ/100g.
• BF® Scottish salmon oil contains rosemary as a natural preservative and is packaged in an opaque pump bottle and jerrycan, which provides the most optimal protection against oxidation from oxygen, moisture, and/or light. After opening, store the salmon oil in a cold, dark place or in the refrigerator.
• Every batch is tested for heavy metals, dioxins, and PCBs before it is shipped, is inspected under GMP+, and is always traceable. This is an additional quality guarantee that falls under our Green Guarantee seal.
• Note! Salmon oil from Scottish salmon naturally contains a high percentage of antioxidants such as Astaxanthin. This substance belongs to the group of carotenoids, which gives the Scottish salmon oil a dark red color. Light, often refined and processed, salmon oil often contains little Astaxanthin. Salmon oil with a high Astaxanthin content protects the Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids for much longer.
