Organic, the best for animals, nature and the environment

Organic is not just a trend in human nutrition; more and more consumers are also choosing organic quality for pet food. Organic means taking nature, animals, and the environment into account.

Humanization

Consumers are becoming increasingly critical and paying more attention to ingredients, packaging, production methods, and sustainability. The humanization of pets is a strong, ongoing trend that aligns with the organic narrative. Consumers want the same nutritional standards for their pets as they do for themselves. As a result, they are more likely to seek out premium pet food products, including organic options. These contain high-quality, recognizable so-called "human-grade" ingredients, which are also suitable for human consumption. Important factors include minimal processing, no artificial additives, or the inclusion of functional ingredients for digestion, joints, the immune system, or allergies. Dog and cat owners associate natural and organic food with better nutritional values.

What does organic food comply with?

BIOFOOD organic kibble and wet food comply with strict legal requirements under the organic EU label. In the organic crops used, no artificial fertilizers are utilized, and the crops are protected through crop rotation, adapted cultivation techniques, and organic pest control. Crops are given more time to grow, which makes the taste and quality of organic food better and healthier. Prevention is still better and many times cheaper than cure (read: itching, bald spots, hot spots, thin and/or excessive stool, hair loss, poor appetite, kidney and liver problems, etc.). Organic crops therefore have a higher nutritional value than non-organic crops, and the amounts of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins are also higher. This is reflected in the feeding guidelines, which are generally lower than for regular feed. Feeding less means lower costs!

International research, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, shows that organic crops have a higher nutritional value than non-organic crops, and the amounts of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins are also higher.

What about the meat?

Most dogs and cats love meat, which also benefits the taste of the food and digestion. BIOFOOD Organic contains a healthy percentage of animal proteins derived from organic animals that have enjoyed plenty of space. When producing organic meat, not only is animal welfare taken into account, but environmental aspects are as well. The animals are not allowed to receive preventative antibiotics or growth-promoting substances, and they have plenty of living space.

Organic is the highest achievable standard in the Netherlands regarding animal welfare. It is also not insignificant that organic agriculture and livestock farming contribute to reducing the greenhouse effect by lowering CO2 emissions.

What are the types and flavors?

BIOFOOD® Organic Chicken all life stages is complete, high-quality organic kibble for all ages and all dog breeds. The kibble has high palatability, excellent digestibility, and is prepared with a high percentage of organic chicken, vegetables, herbs, and salmon oil. The kibble supports the skin, coat, teeth, and digestion and is free of chemical additives. You can find more information here.

BIOFOOD® Organic wet food includes complementary varieties (100% beef or 100% chicken) for dogs and cats as well as complete menu varieties for dogs (turkey and beef) and cats (chicken and beef), suitable from kitten and puppy to senior. The food contains only one protein source, is cold-filled, heated at a controlled low temperature (in its own juices), and is free of additives such as artificial vitamins, fillers, binders, or animal meal. It is suitable for sensitive dogs/cats and is also GMO-free, produced CO2-neutrally, and contains no mass-farmed ingredients, salt, sugar, or other artificial scent, color, or flavor enhancers. You can find more information here.

What about the packaging?

The "No waste" packaging is made of sustainable mono-material that is recyclable. These sustainable "No waste" plastic and tin packages can therefore be disposed of with collected tin or plastic waste. Note! Many pet food bags consist of multiple types of plastic or appear to be made entirely of paper but actually contain plastic, making them impossible or very difficult to recycle, often ending up in general waste. With its unique recyclable bags for dry food, BIOFOOD was one of the few in Europe and the only one in the Benelux.

Combining

Combining wet food or meat food with dry food provides variety and a balanced diet. This can be done by mixing them, but they can also be given separately, e.g., kibble in the morning and wet food in the evening. If you add wet food, you must reduce the amount of kibble to prevent overweight. A general rule of thumb is: replace 100 grams of kibble with approximately 300 to 400 grams of wet food.
