Our Quality Standard

As a Frisian family business, we maintain "our Quality Standard" for all our natural and organic products.

Below are some of the pillars of BF Petfood that ensure a conscious choice and contribute to people, animals, and the environment:

  • Top Dutch quality*.
  • sustainable, natural (BF) and organic products (BIOFOOD) based on 'respect for animals, people, and the environment'.
  • use of high-quality, natural and/or organic premium certified raw materials and ingredients from the Netherlands and/or Europe*, striving for the smallest possible ecological footprint.
  • use of fresh recipe free-range meat and game, dried and fresh (chicken, beef, turkey, duck, and lamb) and fish (salmon) and/or organic meat (chicken, turkey, and beef) and organ meats such as liver, heart, and tripe.
  • use of recyclable packaging (LDPE, PP, tin, and cardboard).
  • use of oils and fats of animal origin, preserved with natural tocopherols.
  • use of natural additives regarding antioxidants and preservatives (vitamin E, tocopherols, rosemary extract, ascorbic acid/vitamin C, cranberry).
  • no artificial fragrances, colorings, or flavorings, nor other chemical substances. This applies to all our natural and organic pet food products, from snacks and feed to our rawhide dental chew bones.
  • against the use of growth promoters, hormones, genetic modification, and antibiotics.
  • produced without factory farming and guaranteed cruelty-free.
  • raw materials, products, and suppliers are continuously checked unannounced by BF®Petfood and independent inspection bodies.
  • suppliers and sub-suppliers of BF®Petfood are HACCP, ISO and/or BRC FOOD certified, and/or organically certified (see BIOFOOD products) and/or GMP coded.
  • suppliers and sub-suppliers of BF®Petfood are VWA-inspected.
  • suppliers and sub-suppliers of BF®Petfood are audited and certified. A Quality Standard certificate is issued provided they meet all requirements and the raw materials comply with the **required specific quality standards.
  • use of sustainable and responsible transport (LEAN and GREEN).


*Excluding: the top-quality rawhide dental chews from Brazil, the organic wet food from Germany, the garlic from Spain, 80% of the herbs come from Europe (20% outside Europe), and the salmon and salmon oil originate from Scotland.
**The specific Quality Standard set by BF Petfood is a standard bound by controlled, specific, and established rules that suppliers and their raw materials must meet regarding origin, production method, quality, controls, sustainability, cleaning, and being environmentally and animal-friendly.
***The BF® Rawhide DENTAL chew bones are produced under the food safety standard BRC Global Standard for Food Safety (BRC Food), which focuses on food safety and quality requirements specified by HACCP: Setting the standard.

Thanks to the established nutritional requirements in the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines for Cats and Dogs, BF®Petfood pet food contains the correct and optimal nutrients. All companies affiliated with the Dutch trade association, including BF®Petfood (NVG), use these guidelines and endorse their importance.
